Well almost every website in world needs some sort of search and there are hell lot of options available in market.
Here are few of open source search engines, which my team is experimenting.
I personally would recommend lucene and sphinx as both are good to work with.
Lucene and Sphinx are open-source search engines.
Sphinx is a stand-alone project and Lucene is maintained by Apache.
Lucene supports live updates to the index whereas Sphinx requires you to reindex the whole index whenever there's an update.
